Here's a wide shot of the area where the bees are. Kirk has covered the entrance to the hive with cardboard, caulked the edges, and installed three one-way bee escapes.

In this detail photo, you can see the three one-way bee escapes (two in the middle of the frame, and one more above). The bees can get out, but they can't get back in.

Finally, Kirk put a box with some bees (and a queen) right near the bee escapes. The bees will come out, find a new hive waiting for them, and join it.
These will be Mark's new bees.
